The spotting scopes have found a owner. The owner has donated the scopes to our range for shooters to use on the ranges.

The scopes will be at the clubhouse at this time until we find a secure box built for the scopes.

The Board is looking to form the following committees.  Please email info@scrgc.ca if you can volunteer even a few hours of your time.

If we do not get any volunteers for the Clubhouse Maintenance, we will have to hire contractors which may result in an increase in annual dues.  There must be some people in the club with skills to help and keep our dues down.

Clubhouse and Indoor Range Committee: To coordinate maintenance and cleanup of the clubhouse. We currenty have ZERO volunteers for this work.

    Current Issues needing immediate attention

    • Need lightbulbs need replaced in range and bathroom
    • Rodent issue needs to be addressed
    • Kitchen and storage rooms need cleaning
    • Office and filing cabinets need organized
    • Hole in kitchen floor needs repairing
    • Stove and dishwasher could use replacing

Range Maintenance Committee: To coordinate regular maintenance and repairs of outdoor ranges.

Range Policies Committee:  To standardize range use procedures and improve signage.

Range Officer Program Committee: To establish a formal SCRGC Range Officer Program and coordinate training.

Fundraising Committee: To coordinate fundraising ideas to keep membership dues down. Ideas suggested include:

    • T-Shirts (with sponsors hopefully ready for sale by the December meat shoot)
    • Renting out clubhouse
    • Axe throwing pit
    • 50 / 50 draw or raffle

Water and Fire Suppression Committee: To liaise with Chapman Creek Hatchery on the well proposal and to determine options and requirements for fire suppression at the shotgun range.

Axe Pit Construction Committee: Design and build axe throwing pit area at lower range. Do you have any axe throwing experience?

Hatchery Well Proposal: The Chapman Creek Hatchery has requested to drill a well on Sunshine Coast Rod and Gun property. All costs to be paid by the Hatchery as they have obtained a grant for this purpose.  The board is supportive of the initiative but it will be up to the members to vote on.  Further details to be provided at the next meeting.

Membership:  Renewals for 2020 memberships will begin November 1, 2019 online and in the clubhouse.   New membership forms will be printed with updated 2020 membership fees.   Any new member applications starting November 1, 2019 will include the remainder of 2019 as well as 2020. Membership cards will be available but can also be printed online or used electronically through the Wild Apricot App.

Membership Fees for 2020 will be as follows:

    • Adult: $140
    • Senior: $120
    • Junior: $40
    • Family: $190

Cutting Permit for Firewood at Pinecone Range: A Licence to Cut permit application has been submitted online and is awaiting approval.  Important notes below:

    • Request is restricted to Danger Trees only
    • No wood is to be removed from property
    • No wood sales are permitted

Archery Report:  Archery is continuing on Saturdays 1-4 pm and Mondays is now indoor from 7-9 pm.   An Archery Pumpkin Shoot will be held the Saturday before Halloween, everyone welcome

Trap report:  Trap is ongoing 2 days a week Wednesdays and Sundays from 1-3 pm.  Be cautious using the trap machines.  If a bird stops the arm part way through firing process it is difficult to safely resolve the issue. The best approach is to use a stick from outside to try and jar the machine. Be safe as this situation can be dangerous.

Bylaw Amendments:  A number of minor Bylaw Amendments will be brought to the General Membership for consideration at a future meeting.

Alan Harding to be awarded an Honorary 5 year Membership to be reviewed each year.

Pinecone Range: A yellow coroplast backstop for shotgun only has been added to the multipurpose pit. The four 2x4’s on top of it can be used to hang plastic jugs. Please remove them when finished and take out along with any other targets. This is the ONLY spot authorized to shoot shotgun at the Pinecone range. Do NOT shoot shotgun anywhere else in the multipurpose pit or the 300 metre range.

Additional firing line flags and a first aid kit have been added to the multipurpose use pit.  Ron will be winterizing and storing the fire suppression equipment at the Pinecone Range

December Meat Shoot Planning: The first Meat shoot planning meeting will be held on Sunday, October 20th at 10:00 at clubhouse. Everyone welcome – volunteers appreciated. This event is being coordinated by Moya Blinn

Steel target shooting. Will be held weekly at Multipurpose pit on Sundays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, dropin fee of $5/person

Axe Throwing Pit: Will be constructed on the Clubhouse grounds. Drop in fees to be determined

Potential Disciplinatry Action: There was an incident of someone shooting a high calibre rifle at the lower range. This is prohibited.  The person did not sign into the book. Suggestion made to look at the video footage and the shooter should be disciplined for this action.

SCRD Water Reservoir: A representative of the SCRD attended a recent board meeting and advised that they are considering building a water reservoir to address the Sunshine Coast Water issues.  Four potential sites have been suggested. One of the 4 sites is on the unused portion of the Pinecone Range licence of occupation next to the road. This is a very preliminary stage of their planning and the options will be presented to the SCRD of Directors in November.  If the reservoir option is selected by the board additional consultation will occur.  The board will keep the general membership updated with information. If the Pinecone Range is selected and the general membership does not support the SCRD proposal then we will have avenues to encourage SCRD to select one of the other options.

The September 21 work party went well, about a dozen people showed up. The 300 m was raised up and rebuilt and the multipurpose pit was cleaned up.   Thank you to everyone that came out.

A yellow coroplast backstop for shotgun only has been added to the multipurpose pit. The four 2x4’s on top of it can be used to hang plastic jugs. Please remove them when finished and take out along with any other targets.

Due to issues with lead management this is the ONLY spot authorized to shoot shotgun at the Pinecone range. Do NOT shoot shotgun anywhere else in the multipurpose pit or the 300 metre range.

Additional firing line flags and a first aid kit have been added to the multipurpose use pit.
