Are you concerned about the recent Federal Government Order in Council that marks the first step in the ban and confiscation of multiple models of firearms that were legally possessed by Canadian firearms owners for the purpose of hunting, collecting or sports shooting?

If so there are things you can do. This information is being posted to provide resources for members convenience and, with respect to non shooting members of the club, this information should not be considered representation of the views of any member or of the Sunshine Coast Rod and Gun Club as a whole.

Here is a  Guide To The Ban Of So-Called “Military Type Assault Rifles” published by the NFA.

Sample wording for letter to MP and MLA (customize as desired)

Mail and email your letter. It has more impact if signed and mailed to your MP

    Dear Mr. _______,

I am writing today as one of your constituents to express my disbelief and disappointment over the action taken by Mr. Trudeau and the federal government against legal firearm owners.

As a lifelong target shooter, shooting sports enthusiast, legal firearm owner and individual affected by the recent action, I strongly feel that the use of an order-in-council ban is an egregious overstepping of the legislative process, and that the action taken will be completely ineffective in combating crime and gun violence in Canada. It is widely documented that the overwhelming majority of firearms used in crime are smuggled into the country illegally and used by criminals who do not abide by the law. Legal firearm owners in Canada are among the most thoroughly vetted individuals and are statistically less likely than other residents of Canada to commit crime. This order-in-council action unfairly targets the legal firearm owner community in what appears to be an attempt to show false progress on combating crime and simultaneously fails to address the issue of criminal gun violence.

I believe that bypassing the legislative process via an order-in-council action is extraordinarily undemocratic and reinforces my confidence in my decision to not vote Liberal in federal elections.

I implore you to consider the facts, consider the results of Petition e-2341 and encourage Mr. Trudeau and his cabinet to rethink this misstep.

    Yours sincerely,
    <Full Name>

There is currently no change to the COVID related SCRGC facility closures; however, the Board of Directors is montioring the situation and will be meeting again this Friday and will discuss options for when facilities may be able to reopen. During this closure the Clubhouse has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.  Thanks to Fred Gazeley for coordinating these efforts.

Our focus remains to protect our members, friends and families and support physical distancing recommendations.

A recent Vancouver Coastal Health notice states that for recreational facilities to be open the following is required.  Facilities should implement strategies that allow both staff and participants to follow the Provincial Health Officer’s physical distancing recommendations and keep themselves 2 metres apart from other people while on site as much as possible.   Operators should follow routine cleaning practices with enhanced cleaning of high-touch surfaces or shared equipment. Operators should ensure that handwashing, toilet and shower facilities, if available, are open, well stocked and cleaned regularly.

If any members are willing to volunteer to commit to regularly cleaning the clubhouse facilites including indoor range and washrooms to support re-opening of the clubhouse please contact

Membership renewals continue to be available online.  Keys and membership cards can be mailed out by emailing

At this time the outdoor Pinecone and lower ranges will remain open; however, club members are strongly encouraged to exercise extreme caution and preferably stay home.

To protect our members, friends and families and in support of physical distancing recommendations the Sunshine Coast Rod and Gun Clubhouse is closed until further notice. The lock on the clubhouse door has been changed.  If you have concerns or need access for some reason please contact the executive at

Additionally, in consideration of the current COVID-19 pandemic, all SCRGC public gatherings including Sunday breakfast, membership, orientation sessions, youth target shooting, trap & skeet shooting, monthly general meetings and the Annual General Meeting are cancelled indefinitely until they can be held in a safe manner.  We will  notify SCRGC membership once the situation improves.

On a positive note the executive is using this time to do some repairs andr cleaning to the clubhouse (with strict sanitary and distancing considerations).

Some archery targets have been temporarily, securely re-located in the outside shed. Please use caution and physical distance precautions if using the archery range.

Membership renewals continue to be available online.  Keys and membership cards can be mailed out by emailing

At this time the outdoor Pinecone and lower ranges will remain open; however, club members are strongly encouraged to exercise extreme caution and preferably stay home.  All levels of government and medical professionals are urging us all to stay home and only go out in public when absolutely necessary. This is critical to "flatten the curve".

Any finance related inquiries (bills, invoices or outstanding payments) are to be emailed to

Stay healthy and take care of each other!  Here are some reliable information sources to keep yourself up to date.
